overheard in the hallway this morning:
Seriously, this China stuff is nuts. There are iPods made there that look just like iPods!
(the speaker went on to discuss how many cheap knockoffs there are in China)
the response to a boss who tends to micromanage and change his mind frequently is *not* to decide not to do anything without the entire team, including the boss, in the room to discuss each and every decision.
Interestingly, MS Powerpoint 2003 does not allow strike-through of text.
I'm having a rough week. I'm sure some portion of the rest of this post can be attributed to stress, depression, and the like. But it is what's in my head, spilled out here in an attempt to stop obsessing over some of this. So y'all can just cope.

In case I haven't mentioned it, the NICU is damn depressing. And I'm pretty well tied to it and the breast pump - have been for three months now, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.
Most of our friends and family avoid going to visit Alexander with us - and I can only assume it's so they don't have to face the NICU, because it's not like Alex is all that scary. And to some extent that's really hard for me. I'd rather have the company when we're there to take my mind off things.
...on wild boars in Michigan:
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080915/NEWS06/80915039...
"We are not exaggerating when we say the wild boar problem in Michigan is now at crisis proportions," Patrick J. Rusz, director of wildlife programs for the Michigan Wildlife Conservancy, said last week. "They are good for absolutely nothing.
"We're telling people: If you see one, shoot it."
This week there's been news about tainted baby formula in China - one baby dead, 60 or more being treated for kidney stones. Apparently it has melamine, just like the pet food did a while back.
This morning, they're reporting that some of the formula may have made its way to the US (likely only in ethnic grocery stores, but still....): http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/17452417/detail.html
A lot of people I know are ambivalent about breastfeeding, and take any mention of cloth diapers, making baby food, or any other attachment parenting or green parenting or crunchy parenting ideas as proof that you need to see a shrink.
But today...I feel somewhat vindicated when it comes to those choices
I've been reading various Pagan books lately from my stash of bought-but-not-read books.
I've realized that most of the authors I'm reading aren't stellar writers - most don't even have much that's really novel to say. They just had the wherewithall to actually write a whole book.
So, note to self: as mentioned before, just f*cking write.

Apparently google thinks one of my other sites has malware. when I get home I'll have to verify my sites with google so they can tell me what they're smoking.

I need to completely re-write my technical paper for voice, and my boss *still* hasn't read it all for content. And the draft is due at the end of the month.

Alexander is now just a few ounces shy of being 4 times his birth weight - he's gained like a half pound this week.
Which means that I am *really* far behind on milk now. He's gone from getting right at 9 ounces a day to almost 12 ounces - and I have been stuck at 8-9 ounces of production for the last month.

My boss blew off a review of my first draft of "our" SAE paper. Which sucks, because first drafts are due to SAE by the end of the month.
