some days the Gods take care of their own.
Signing classes for this fall came to a screeching halt this past weekend when the music studio I was negotiating with discovered that it would be a violation of her lack of a business license to have people other than her teaching in her home.
So, yesterday I put on my thinking cap. I've got 4 classes scheduled through a neighboring city. I've got plans for a baby expo in January.
My goal is to be able to pay the car payment every month by the end of they year (though, the car payment as such will no longer exist by then, having been transferred to other means of financing that have lower interest rates). So: $300 profit a month. And I've got expenses of $50 a month, plus cost of goods sold and rental of spaces.
Assuming I get the minimum enrollments for those 4 classes, I'll pay for my $50 a month, but not much beyond that. So more classes, in a couple of locations, would be good.
This seemed like the kind of thing I could network my way out of....so I started posting. Many people responded with things that I'd already looked into, but a couple of good ideas came out of it.
Thus, today it was time to poke at some of those leads, and see what turned up.
I called a daycare center that had emailed last week. It's a chain place, and this particular location wants to offer classes, and to cross-promote them through other local locations. Plus handing out stuff to their parents. It's a bit of a drive, but still could be really great.
I sent an email off to another large daycare locally that offers a huge indoor play area, classes, and a coffee shop w/ wireless for parents. Interestingly, they emailed back and told me to drop by with details some morning this week. This one could work well; how well remains to be seen.
Then from out of nowhere, I got an email from a chiropractor just a few miles from here who runs a "wellness" center - yoga, massage, chiropractic, a naturopath, and a personal trainer. She, particularly, specializes in treating pregnant women and children, and loves the idea of having signing and other kid classes. I think it could be a good fit too.
So, here's hoping that this sort of thing continues.
