I haven't written much here lately. Not that I don't want to write, or can't write, but...there's a lot of housecleaning going on in my head, and I'm not really ready to share. Too much stuff that I fear will be taken the wrong way by various people, and too much stuff that's just too damn personal for public consumption. Rest assured that I *am* talking with a small handful of close friends as I need to, and things are getting sorted, day by day.

Alex is doing pretty good. We've gotten his nursing care more stabilized, so he has mostly the same nurses most of the time. It's good for him to have that stability, and good for us not to have to worry about who is taking care of him.

We got to learn how to do all the stretches he's doing with PT last night, so this is good. It's like baby yoga ;)

I am somewhat amused and somewhat irritated by the insistence of some of the nursing staff who keep going on and on and on about how this was the best thing for Alex, and how we shouldn't worry about it, and how taking care of him & his trach is really really easy and we'll be just fine. We're not worried about it, and we already knew that it was the best option for him...so is it that normal people freak out about this, or is it that the nurses aren't comfortable with the whole thing?

Work is still work, and my boss is on vacation through the end of the year starting Monday. He's also been out sick since Tuesday. At this point, I suspect getting anything else done this year is just not going to happen.

My thyroid has finally stabilized, at a lower dose of meds than pre-pregnancy. My insulin and A1c are also good, also at a lower dose of meds. So...assuming I don't do something stupid and start putting on a lot of weight again, it looks like we may have at least somewhat affected the PCOS and my metabolism in good ways.

To that end, last weekend I started karate again. Mostly for now, it's a private lesson every Saturday at noon - just after the adult class ends.

It's a little earlier in the day than I'd prefer, but it's with a really stellar 3rd degree blackbelt, one-on-one in a mostly empty dojo, and will eventually evolve into a combination of bag work, kenpo, and so on. Plus I can still go to the regular classes if I get the urge to do so. It's been recommended I wait a month or so for that, just to get me caught up and to the point where I remember everything I've done in the past though.

Barry got 2 belts ahead of me while I was pregnant & recovering; maybe I can catch up while he's still in a cast. I've already learned all the orange belt stuff; I've been an orange for a year now. So that test ought to come fairly quickly after the first of the year.

Having a housekeeper is awesome.

*****

We will be having a garage sale this spring. A really big garage sale, as we sort through all the crap that's getting cleaned up as the housekeeper gets the house in order. Anyone interested is more than welcome to make plans to join us in this adventure; I think we'll try to catch a weekend that the neighbors across the street host their monthly yard sale too for the added traffic

Finally, a quote from an email forward to make you smile:

Some people are like slinkeys.

Basically useless, but they make you smile when you push them down the stairs.
