filters

Submitted by kadiera on Tue, 05/27/2008 - 16:09.

I will endeavor to keep this list of filters up to date right here, so it won't get lost.

Not all of these have posts at this point; I assume they will at some point, but no posting frequency is promised. Comment on the site (http://kadiera.quicksilverdragon.com ) to be added to filters; you must have an account there and read them there, or in an RSS reader that allows authentication, to read them.

polyamory - there hasn't been much to say on this topic lately, but every once in a while things have come up for discusison.

kink - I think I've posted exactly one post in my entire blogging career on kink-related subjects, and that was a public post. But just in case I decide to talk, it's here.

The rules here...

In general, I write a lot. Feel free to subscribe to a feed (there should be links somewhere on the main page) and read from your favorite aggregator.

I write a lot about general things going on in life. I write about writing, religion, relationships, the cats, things that irritate me, things that amuse me, and anything else that comes to mind.

xmas music

Submitted by kadiera on Tue, 12/23/2008 - 16:17.

We just had a bagpiper playing Christmas music stop and play for a bit, then walk off, playing the whole time, without saying a word.

How...odd? surreal?

late night entertainment

Our house got broken into last night. I caught the guy because he knocked over some stuff which woke me up.

He got off with my eee laptop, but the police found it in the snow. I fought with him, and got his coat off him as he was trying to escape. The other couple things he picked up were in his coat pockets (including the pizza he stole from the fridge).

His jacket had his parole officer's phone number in his pocket.

The police actually saw him leave the house, as they were checking on a suspicious persons call. They lost him briefly, then tracked him with a dog.

We're fine (but tired), although I'm a bit sore and have a few gouges on my hand. I'm sure I'll bruise terribly, given the aches that are already developing.

random grammar nazi moment

Submitted by kadiera on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 14:39.

Barry's already heard this gripe this morning, so feel free to skip this one, hon ;)

When addressing envelopes using formal etiquette, the address should never be:

Mr & Mrs John Doe and family

or, by extension,

Mr & Mrs John Doe and son

Children have names. Their names should be included on envelopes. Formally, that'd be:

Mr & Mrs John Doe
Master Jeremy Doe, Miss Jennifer Doe

(assuming that Jeremy is under 13 but older than Jennifer)

If you're addressing the envelope more informally, you use:

John & Jane Doe and Jeremy & Jennifer

This has been today's grammar PSA. Thanks. :)

stuff

Ilex butt cream: http://www.ilexpaste.com/ - the directions include the suggestion that you coat the ilex paste in vaseline to keep one's bottom from being glued shut. But apparently the stuff works wonders....

Got my PR. Suggested improvements to be made (OMG, someone has constructive criticisms? this is new territory for me in a PR...) include not being as patient on follow ups that people owe me, and that while my boss knows I'm paying attention no matter what happens in a meeting or what I'm doing with my hands, I should pretend to be paying attention to what's going on like a normal person, because it's seen as insulting.

*sigh*

I can't knit in meetings. Silly putty has gotten me some rather irritated people. Now doodles and playing with my phone are out too?

randomness

I haven't written much here lately. Not that I don't want to write, or can't write, but...there's a lot of housecleaning going on in my head, and I'm not really ready to share. Too much stuff that I fear will be taken the wrong way by various people, and too much stuff that's just too damn personal for public consumption. Rest assured that I *am* talking with a small handful of close friends as I need to, and things are getting sorted, day by day.

Alex is doing pretty good. We've gotten his nursing care more stabilized, so he has mostly the same nurses most of the time. It's good for him to have that stability, and good for us not to have to worry about who is taking care of him.

On a story about the new administration and pundits who are advising what to do with the Homeland Security Department:

"We can't child-proof our way out of this problem," where "child-proof" referred to more guards, more x-ray machines, more checks of drivers licenses, and so on.

general updates

Alex is doing fabulously on the vent, and they're working on getting him down to the point where the vent doesn't breathe at all unless he breathes deeply enough to trigger it. He's so much happier it's hard to explain.

My mom has been in the hospital twice in the last month with heart issues. First her heart beat was too fast, then apparently the meds for that worked too well, and her heart rate dropped way too low. She's supposed to have a catheterization next week, along with wearing a monitor to check the electrical action.

Lexapro helps. It's not perfect, but it's manageable this way, and I'm not a zombie.

clothes

Today I am grateful for knee-high socks. So very warm when walking across the parking lot...

While I've gained back a bit of the weight I lost being pregnant, it seems I'm still losing inches. I've given up on a pair of pants in the last 2 weeks for failing my standard "too big for a belt" test, wherein the pants are removable without unbuttoning or unzipping. I know they weren't that big when I came back to work in August, because every pair of pants I owned was subjected to this test the week before. I've also given up two knit tops, on the realization that they needed to be taken in about 6-8" to be flattering, and that was just not going to happen. Even my favorite jeans, new last Christmas, are big enough on me now to require a belt.
